Youngsters from a Fakenham theatre group are paying tribute to their friend and co-star Ellie Loades in next month’s production of Les Miserables (school edition).

Colkirk girl, Ellie, 16, was a member of Fakenham and District Light Operatic Society (FADLOS Kidz) before her death in November 2013 following a battle with Cystic Fibrosis.

She had performed in a series of shows over the years and also helped with scenery, backstage and handling the animals for productions.

Rehearsals are in full swing for the theatre group, who are working on Les Miserables (school edition) which is to be staged next month at the town’s Community Centre.

Roy Ferris, of FADLOS, said: “Ellie’s parents, Nick and Elaine Loades, attended rehearsals to see how the show was shaping up. They were delighted to watch a section of the show and to be involved in the cast photograph.

“The Kidz production have also dedicated two of their awards, given at the end of the annual show for effort, to Ellie’s name as it was agreed by all that she always put in a huge amount of effort with such little fuss.”

To help support Ellie’s Love, the charity set up in Ellie’s memory, Fadlos Kidz have organised fundraising events and will be sharing the money donated in the buckets after each performance.

This epic production has seen a cast of 40, all aged from seven to 19, in rehearsals since January, with each principle taking on the challenge of performing their songs as done by those in the West End.

Fadlos Kidz production of Les Miserables School Edition is being performed at Fakenham Community Centre July 8-12 at 7.30pm. The box office is at Sugar and Spice in Fakenham and the tickets are £7.50.

While the youngsters are hard at work, the adults in FADLOS are still celebrating the success from their last production of Oklahoma!, while getting excited to be making the Norfolk premiere of Grease next May.

The production has all the original songs and no age restriction, meaning that anyone can audition. So if you are a Danny, Sandy, Rizzo or Frenchie keep your eye out on the website for the audition details – www.fadlos.co.uk
