Lynn’s Corn Exchange will host a line-up of jaw-dropping performances from local and international dance companies for the International Festival of Hip Hop Dance Theatre.
Sadler’s Wells’ critically acclaimed international festival, Breakin’ Convention, makes its debut in Lynn on Thursday, May 13, with a range of high-energy performances carefully curated by UK hip hop theatre artist Jonzi D.
Les Miller, general manager, said: “We at the Corn Exchange are really excited to be part of Breakin’ Convention 2014.
“A festival of hip hop dance theatre is not immediately what springs to mind when you think of the Corn Exchange but we hope this will attract a new audience and give the local young people a chance to experience something totally new right here on their doorstep.”
The event is now in its 11th year and this year’s line-up includes Olivier Award-nominated ILL-Abilities, an international group of breakdancers who have overcome extraordinary challenges. The group have helped to spread the message “No Excuses, No Limits”, redefining society’s view of disability and encouraging limitless possibilities through motivational entertainment.
Also featuring is London’s Ukweli Roach, who presents an ensemble performance about temptation and vice. A highly skilled artist and founding member of BirdGang Dance Company, she has choreographed and performed world-wide as well as working as an actor in film, television and theatre.
Also performing are local acts including North Lynn’s Noise and Chance School of Dance, and the Cambridge-based Dance Offensive and Elementz Ent.
Breakin’ Convention will also see the Corn Exchange’s foyer transformed with live DJs, freestyle dance jams, graffiti exhibitions and workshops from top international artists.
