Grimston will host a special Gig In The Garden with Nelson’s Shantymen this weekend, for those looking for the perfect addition to their bank holiday weekend.
See the Burnham Thorpe group perform at Field House, in the village, on Sunday, from 2-5pm, and help raise funds to support the Friends of St Botolph’s Church.
Nelson’s Shantymen are a diverse group of enthusiasts, driven in equal measure by a love of singing and a desire to keep the tradition of the sea-shanty alive.
True to the original spirit of the shanty, a major emphasis is placed on the voice and while musical accompaniment, in the form of accordion, banjo, bodhran, guitar and harmonica, is an integral part of performance, it is never to the detriment of the close vocal harmonies that the group achieves.
Since their formation in March 2010, the Shantymen have performed to acclaim in a wide range of venues throughout the area.
Visitors are welcome to bring along picnics and spend an afternoon being serenaded by some authentic songs from the sea. Tea, coffee and homemade cakes will be for sale, and parking is free. Entry costs £7.50 on the gate.
