Grow-your-own enthusiast Steve Wilson has been crowned champion in the first-ever Best Garden Allotment competition organised by the Grimston Fen Allotment Trust. Mr Wilson beat off competition from around 20 other garden allotment holders who have build up their plots from scratch in Leziate Drove, Pott Row, over the last three years.

The competition was judged by members of Lynn Horticultural Society, who were impressed with Mr Wilson’s beautifully kept allotment and mixed-use plot, which includes chickens, vegetables, fruit and plants. There are two vacant allotments on the site. Any parishioners interested can contact Trust chairman Sue Willis on 01553 630579.

Mr Wilson is pictured in his allotment being presented with the winner’s cup by Mrs Willis, surrounded by other allotment holders, from left, Neville Jackson, Derek Ovenden, Colin and Katie Buffham. And even getting in the frame is Jones, a friendly pet Mr Wilson was looking after.
