Watlington Players have barely had time to return from Neverland since their New Year production, but it’s already full steam ahead for readings for their next show.

The cast and crew are taking a step back in time with their next musical, Oh What A Lovely War, directed by David Brammer, as the mark the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of World War I.

Megan Abbott, of the Players, said: “2014 marks a century since the outbreak of the horror that was World War One, so it is sure to be a poignant production.

“The show is a theatrical chronicle of the First World War, told through songs and documents of the period.”

She added: “It features a large ensemble cast and will especially require some young men.”

Budding actors or crew members can get involved with the production, which is set to be performed between May 28 to 31, by joining the group for readings next week.

The readings will take place at Watlington Village Hall on Tuesday, January 7, and Friday, January 10, from 7.30pm, with auditions taking place on Sunday, January 12, from 2pm.
