There is still time to sign yourselves up for the annual Hilgay raft races, held on Sunday, July 10 on the River Wissey.

The contest, hosted by BBC Radio Norfolk’s Wally Webb, will start at 1pm in aid of Nelson’s Journey and Sue Ryder.

Butcher Alistair Dent, one of the event’s organisers, said: “It is supposed to be really hot on that Sunday so it should be a great day.”

Mr Dent runs the event alongside Downham Rotary Club, who also hold the village’s annual duck race on the same day.

Last year more than a thousand people gathered on the riverside to watch the 15 rafts competing.

Entrance to the event is £1, and concessions and under 12s get in for free.
