A fundraising concert featuring the West Norfolk Jubilee Youth Orchestra is being arranged at St Edmund’s Church, in Hunstanton.

From Norfolk to Outer Space will be held on Sunday, March 13, at 2.30pm; entrance is free, there will be refreshments and the retiring collection will be shared between WNJYO and St Edmund’s.

St Edmund’s is facing a huge bill to repair the wall at the west end of the south aisle (the back inside wall nearest the main entrance) and Father John Bloomfield describes it as being in a “precarious state”.

Last year, Mike Tandy and his fabulous Empty Trio started the fundraising drive with a concert at St Edmund’s, this year there is the opportunity to see young musicians perform in a space with great acoustics – just don’t forget to bring a cushion for the pew for this concert!

St Edmund’s is used not only for regular worship, weddings and funerals but also for many other events including concerts, recitals, school Nativities and harvest festivals. The doors are open during the day and the visitor’s book is full of addresses from far and wide.

Father John said: “It takes a lot of money to keep our churches open and available for the wider community and if we want to keep the idea of a parish church going with its ministry available for the local community then we have to maintain the building. And our building needs quite a lot of work done on it at the moment.”
