A Lynn band have got a busy few months coming up as they release their latest EP and embark upon a nationwide tour, but still finding time to put on a home-town show for the fans.

Common Youth is a new alternative and synth-rock band who took their name from their debut single which was released last December and was dubbed “an impressive debut” by BBC Introducing.

In just six months, the band have released their latest offering as well as signing on for a two-month UK tour and have even become involved with a local fashion line.

Adam Tucker is lead vocalist and guitarist, Ed Skerry plays drums, bassist Pete Cuss, lead guitarist Dan Dobbie and Ash Weirich on synths make up the band.

Ed said: “We’re so pleased we’ve finally got some music out there for people to listen to. It’s taken about a year-and-a-half to finally get the ball rolling with Common Youth – it was last summer we finally settled on a sound we were happy with and felt exited about.”

Ed added: “We have all done a lot in the past with different projects but I think this is the one we’re all most proud of. We recorded the EP last October, which feels ages ago now, with a guy called Neil Kennedy who has worked with Tu Amore, Signals, Giants and loads of other up-and-coming UK acts.

“It was great to see the songs develop into the finished product over the five days we spent in the studio from the demos we had recorded in Adam’s shed.”

Their debut EP, Whilst You’re Young, was released on April 28, and the five tracks demonstrate the band’s diversity combining electronic synth, 90’s grunge, contemporary indie and alternate rock and pop. The result is a unique style that fuses rock with pop melodies, synth hooks and catchy chant-along choruses.

The EP’s overriding theme is youth and the experiences everyone shares throughout their younger years. Songs, such as Common Youth, touch upon ideas of teenage lust and alcoholism, whilst synth-driven At Your Feet deals issues like drug addiction after a relative of lead singer Adam’s lost his way.

In-between tackling big issues in their songs, Common Youth have found time to get involved in working with a new clothing line, Cultivate, who promote a positive image of youth.

The band is also soon setting out on a nationwide tour of the UK throughout May and June, stopping off in London, Salford, Liverpool, Essex, Doncaster, Sheffield and Norwich.

Ed said: “We can’t wait to get out and play some shows around the UK between May and July – there’ll probably be nobody there but still, I’m sure we’ll have fun!”

With all of this on their plate, the band have still found time for their local fans and are putting on an intimate show at Lynn’s newest music venue, The Rathskeller, on May 23.

Ed added: “Hopefully our gig at the Rathskeller will actually have some people there though! It’s free entry and open to anyone, but hopefully we’ll pack it with a load of friends and family. So come along and see what we’re all about!”
