A classical guitar concert by Galina Vale – known as “La Diva de la Guitarra” – is being held at St Mary’s Church in Rougham on Saturday.
An international star, this flamboyant virtuoso guitarist has won numerous prizes around the globe and has performed more than 2,000 concerts across west and eastern Europe, USA, central America, Africa and Asia.
Christine Blakemore, who is organising the event in the West Norfolk village, said: “Galina comes from a family of musicians in the Ukraine and she has been giving concerts all over the world since she was 12 years old.
“She is stunningly beautiful, with a vibrant stage presence and she is a simply brilliant guitarist – check her out on YouTube playing the Paganinni Caprice No.24 blindfold!
“We want to make sure that we get a good audience for this concert as Galina is coming from Manchester, where she lives, just to do it as she is my friend.
“I first saw her playing at Guildford a few years ago and it was so impressive as there was a clock ticking loudly in the hall which must have been such a distraction. I wrote to her after that and I have since been to several more concerts; then she contacted me and said she would love to do a concert at our church … and here we are.”
The concert is on Saturday, at 7.30pm, and will also feature a talk on the history of Rougham presented by Christine, which was written by her late mother Pamela North.
Tickets for the concert are £10 or £6 for Rougham residents; they are available to be bought at the Rougham village shop or they can be ordered by calling Christine on 01328 838607.
