Tickets go on sale from this weekend for the East Anglian Ex-Forces Big Band charity concert at King’s Lynn Academy on Saturday, February 21, in aid of Help for Heroes.

The band was formed in 2009 by Alan Norris and Bob Airzee, both ex-members of the Regimental Band of the 1st Bn The Royal Anglian Regt, and the band members are ex-military musicians, many of whom continue to play professionally.

To date they have performed eight concerts raising £14,500 for Help for Heroes.

Alan Norris, the musical director, was a student at Gaywood Park School (now KL Academy) from 1957 – 1961.

After leaving school he joined the 1st Bn East Anglian Regiment, serving for 25 years before he retired from the forces in 1987 with the rank of WO1.

Alan is now retired and runs his own Big Band as well as a junior Swing Band based in March.

Also in the band on tenor sax is local boy Chris Smith who attended the Gaywood Park School 30 years ago; he’s served in the 3rd Bn Royal Anglian Regimental Band and now lives with his family in Colchester.

In the trumpet section is Scott Chapman, who is ex-USAF and lives in Lynn.

The concert will include big band favourites from the 1940s to the present day; there will be refreshments available also a raffle with all proceeds going to Help for Heroes.

Tickets at £10 adults and £5 for under 16s and students will be on sale from Sunday from Daryle Taylor on 0784 0747956.

On the night tickets will also be available on the door from 6.30pm and the concert will start at 7.30pm.
