The warm glow of Christmas lights and festive music will welcome the community into Hillington Square this Sunday for the Christmas lights switch-on.

Organised by Freebridge Community Housing and their partners Lovell, The Purfleet Trust and All Saints Church, the switch on of the Christmas Tree Lights, will be the perfect way to start off the seasonal celebrations.

Michelle Gant, director of engagement at Freebridge, said: “Last year was the first time that we worked with our partners to have a Christmas tree event at Hillington Square.

“It was such a lovely afternoon that we were all very keen to do it again.

“We are all really looking forward to welcoming people into the heart of the community and enjoy an afternoon that promises to get everyone in the Christmas spirit.”

Soundtracked by two local music groups – The Familiar and Battle Of The Acoustic Bands runners-up Morganway will be entertaining the crowds. The folk, rock band brings punchy guitar riffs to the stage.

A delicious selection of festive food will also be on offer at the Olive Branch Café.

Hillington Square celebrated the first milestone in the £30-million regeneration project last month when Millfleet Court, the first phase of the work, was officially unveiled. The second phase is due to start in 2015.

The light switch on event starts at 4pm on Sunday, December 7, at the Olive Branch Café, Hillington Square.
