Young people from Lynn have found cinematic success after two films made by Norfolk Museums Service were chosen to feature in this year’s BBC Young Film Makers Festival.

A total of 10 films were chosen, with two originating from West Norfolk and involving youngsters from the North Lynn Discovery Centre and Lynn Museum Youth Forum.

Stuart Hall Fenland Project Officer said: “The young people involved in both projects worked extremely hard, taking great pride in their work. Both films are a great example of how creative young people can be and how local heritage can be used in a very practical and empowering way.”

Lord Orford’s Voyage was made as part of the Heritage Lottery Fund Fenland Lives & Land project by a group of 10-14 year olds from North Lynn Discovery Centre. It comically documents the antics of Lord Orford’s 1774 jolly through the Fen waterways, as recorded in his personal journal.

Super Mecha Tech Plate was made by Lynn Museum Youth Forum, run by youth engagement officer Anna Caley, to support Lynn Town Hall’s successful bid for lottery funding. This Python-esque film shows various pieces from the town’s collection of civic regalia forming huge robot-like beings that stomp through old images of Lynn.

Both films will be on show with eight others at the Fusion Screen in the Forum, in Norwich, until July 12. Go to for more information.

Lord Orford’s Voyage is also touring the region with the Fenland exhibition, Living on Land & Water. It is currently at the Norris Museum, St. Ives.

The recent successes follow on from the shortlist of a Fenland Lives & Land film earlier this year in the international Museums in Short film competition. The film, When The Landlord Came For Rent, was made by a group of unemployed young people from NACRO in Wisbech and was one of ten shortlisted in this prestigious European film competition.
