Food and farming – past and present – on the Holkham Estate is the brand new, exciting and interactive exhibition for visitors.
The ‘Field to Fork’ exhibition tells the story of Holkham’s unique farming history and demonstrates, in a fun and engaging way, the relationship between the land and food production.
And in today’s competition we have a family ticket (two adults and up to three children) on offer to use on any Sunday, Monday or Thursday in August – and as an extra treat there will also be a voucher to enjoy ice creams at the Courtyard Café.
The ticket will include a chance to visit Holkham Hall, the walled garden and, of course, the Field to Fork exhibition which really is interactive and with some great areas for children to get hands-on and learn a little, too. Who knew farming could be this much fun?
Visitors can start right at the beginning, tracing the family tree of the Coke family, all the way back to Thomas William Coke, the 1st Earl of Leicester. Thomas William Coke was better known as ‘Coke of Norfolk’ and pioneered the principle of crop rotation and instigated the famous ‘Holkham Sheep Shearings’, which were the forerunner of today’s modern agricultural shows.
Travelling through the exhibition and through time to modern day farming at Holkham, visitors will have the opportunity to find out more through artefacts and interactive displays about historical farming techniques as well as discovering which crops are grown at Holkham and how they end up on supermarket shelves.
For your chance to win the family ticket just answer this question:
Who was the 1st Earl of Leicester?
Put your answer on a postcard or the back of a stuck-down envelope and send to: Holkham Farming competition, Lynn News, Limes House, Purfleet Street, King’s Lynn PE30 1HL. Closing date for your entries is next Tuesday, August 2, and the winner will be contacted immediately.
You can also email your entry to firstname.lastname@example.org and please type in Holkham Farming competition in the subject box.
The family ticket can only be used on any Sunday, Monday or Thursday in August, 2016; it cannot be exchanged for any other exhibition or event at Holkham, or for cash.
