A colourful print from King’s Lynn’s High Street from around 1900

Picture This with Lynn Museum from Tuesday, May 14.

This shot of High Street, from about 1900, displays the beautiful art of hand colouring photographic prints which was popular in the mid to late Victorian period.

On the right-hand side, we can see several shops have awnings over the windows, with the closest being ‘Dyers, Cleaners, Steam Laundry’.

Over the road, linked by the decorative wrought iron streetlamp bracket, is ‘London Glove House’, sporting a large double-fronted window, reminding us of the importance of gloves as everyday wear at this time.
