In our weekly All Our Yesterdays feature we look back to 2003, 2004 and 2015…
August 2004: The worms turned during a charity fun day at Gaywood’s Community Centre when the Mucky Pups and Chatterbox Nursery raised around £300 for a Christmas trip. Pictured at the worm charming competition are Charlie Howard (4) and his brother Arron (5).
August 2004: Macmillan nurse Sara Dale (left) accepts a cheque for £1,043.41 from Maureen Anderson and her daughter Cathryn for the Macmillan Care and Treatment Centre at Lynn’s QEH. Maureen, of Clenchwarton, made the donation in memory of her husband Paul who had died from melanoma the previous March.
August 2004: Clenchwarton Youth FC organised a girls’ football tournament in aid of the Mayor’s Charity – Queen Elizabeth Hospital Stroke Unit, with all monies raised on the day donated to the charity. A total of 21 teams took part and pictured here, Three Holes (in blue) take on hosts Clenchwarton (blue/yellow).
August 2004: Borough Mayor Paul Brandon (centre) triumphantly cycled into Castle Acre to complete the third day of his 200-mile sponsored bike ride, raising money for the stroke unit at Lynn’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital. On his left is West Norfolk councillor Gwyneth Thorneywork and on his right is parish council chairman Jean Joice. August 2004: Ready for the off at the start of a sponsored fun walk in aid of Heacham and Snettisham surgeries. About 40 people took part in the four-mile hike from Heacham to Hunstanton and back, raising £1,400.
August 2004: Hunstanton United Services Club presents £1,250 – raised at its fun day – to the RNLI Hunstanton branch. Club president Tom Davis (left) presents the cheque to Robin Rafferty, the lifeboat operations manager.
August 2015: A charity craft fair at the Old Town Hall in Hunstanton raised about £225 for Norfolk Tapping House Hospice. Pictured here are artist and event organiser John Abbott with hospice volunteer Val Smith, with a backdrop of some of John’s work.
August 2003: Mouth-watering home-made cakes and a welcoming cup of tea … served by the friendly Saturday morning team at St Margaret’s church in Lynn, with all the money raised going to church funds. August 2003: These Sandringham firefighters raised £300 from their charity car wash in Dersingham. It was all in aid of Riding for the Disabled Magpie Centre, based at Wallington Hall, near Downham.
