All Our Yesterdays: September good causes
September 2001: Please sir, can we have some more? It’s all in a good cause! The King’s Lynn Players’ cast of Oliver! thank their main sponsors the Lynn News and Sainsbury’s with this photo-call at the store’s fruit and veg section. Pictured with them are Lynn News publishing director David Dixon (left) and Paul Hotson (back right), duty manager at the store. Four charities were to benefit from the production at Lynn Corn Exchange – NCH Action for Children, East Anglian Children’s Hospice, Macmillan Cancer Relief and Rudham Children’s Ward at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Lynn.
September 2000: Going out dressed casually helped South Lynn Buffalo Harry Simmonds raise £510 for Briar House, the residential home in Columbia Way, North Lynn. As a member of Lynn’s Appleton Lodge of the Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes, he was sponsored to dress in baggy shorts and a T-shirt to visit all the province’s lodges. Harry and partner Joan Fayers present the cheque to Gail Suiter, activities organiser at Briar House.
September 2000: Madcap staff from AMG Vauxhall in Lynn and Hunstanton took their manager for a ride – and all for a good cause. He was carried eight miles on a stretcher and it was hoped the venture would raise around £500 for the Macmillan cancer unit at Lynn’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Branch manager Terry Thomas takes it easy during the walk; the main organiser Simon Leys is pictured second left at the back, with Amanda Leys (front right) and Sharon Paddy helping out with the collection buckets.
September 2010: Fundraising was a piece of cake for these Watlington youngsters. They rallied around after hearing that thieves had made off with lead from the roof of St Peter’s and St Paul’s Church. Getting ready for their cake stall are, from left, Isabel Coupland, Lucas Beaven, Georgia Oliver, Jacasta Waudby, back, Pauline Simmons with Carson Moore, Oscar Beaven, Thomas Moreton and Daisy Catton, front right.
September 2010: Fundraising by the St Raphael Club and Staff Nurse Tonie Ball meant that a new trolley was bought for Lynn’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital accident and emergency unit. Pictured at the presentation are, Sister Julia Denyer (front), Sister Nicki Smart and Staff Nurse Tonie Ball, with St Raphael volunteers (from left) Gladys Copeman, Brian Crook, Margaret Crook, Jenny Curson, Brian Cooper, Betty Cooper and Bridget Brown.
September 2010: These members of the Lynn area Keeping Abreast support group are pictured at a fundraising tea party. From left, Linda Richardson, Michelle Howlett, Sue Henry, Pauline Bunting, Rhonda Evans, Mandy Kowalewsky and Sandra Cole.
September 2010: A black tie ball organised by cancer patient Sara Tierman (third from right in front row) raised £10,525 for the oncology unit at Lynn’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital. The event was a 40th birthday celebration for Sara, of Clenchwarton, who described it as a “stunning success”.
September 2013: Volunteers from Downham’s Sue Ryder shop held a 50p sale in the town’s Methodist Church, raising funds for its regional hospice project. Pictured are, from left, volunteers Anne Stafford, Chrissy Nicholls and Hayley Wright, with shop manager Heather Blyth.
September 2013: Pictured here are members of the Lynn breast cancer aftercare support group, celebrating the group’s 18th birthday with a party and buffet after the usual exercise class.
