Lynn News Bar Man asks: How many gallons in a peck?

More news, no ads

How many gallons are there in a peck? The reason I ask is that we have been promised a return to the imperial system of measurement and that was one of the two questions that I failed to answer correctly on the 16-part quiz testing my knowledge of measurement systems that was published in the Guardian recently.

I also failed to work out that a ‘cubic decimetre’ as defined in the 1985 Weights and Measures Act is a litre.

Still as a child of the 60’s I think I am Imperial ready. Bring on the pounds and ounces, the pints and gallons and I won’t flinch. Do I think it is a good idea? Of course not.
