King’s Lynn Baxter’s Plain post office transforming, Debenhams and Sommerfeld & Thomas to hopefully follow

More news, no ads

As expected, the proposal to redevelop the Old Post Office on Baxter’s Plain has been accepted.

From now on to be known as King’s Lynn Atheneum, the building will be transformed into three floors of flats with a commercial space on the ground floor and a roof top garden.

There is no doubt that something needs to be done with the property which has slowly been deteriorating since it closed in 2007, and it is hard to see past flats as a sustainable use. However, concerns remain. The smallest flats I can identify on the plans that have been submitted are only 50 square metres in size, about 538 square feet, and while many are half as big again, they are still on the tiny side.
