Bar Man: Shetland is magical but has no cask conditioned ale
Just occasionally in life you discover a magical place. For me that was Shetland. We went there six years ago and of all the places I have ever visited it was one of my favourites.
Not quite Scottish, yet not quite Scandinavian, it has a charm all of its own. The wild landscapes with rounded hills and rugged cliffs, dotted with isolated settlements, the history, food and people all merged to make it special.
The question is that having discovered such a place, is it wise to return? Inevitably, the charm comes from being there at a particular time and is filtered through a selective memory and it may be best if those memories are left undisturbed and not tested by reality.
