Jubilees don’t come round very often, so it is hard to know how to react.

In 1977 I had just finished my final exams at university and so it was a time for celebration, especially as the pubs had all day opening, which was not the normal situation in those far off days.

This time, I think the atmosphere was a little more muted, with more of a sense of thankfulness and appreciation, but a knowledge that this was the last one that many of us will see. Still, there were celebrations to be had, and our first trip was down to Stoke Ferry to deliver some of the Barwife’s excellent cakes to the Blue Bell.
