Hilgay butchers and Castle Acre ducks in this week’s All Our Yesterdays
In our weekly look through back issues of the Lynn News, we revisit 2012, 2014 and 2018 for our All Our Yesterdays feature…
May 2012: A trio of Hilgay butchers do a double take with their double-knitted likenesses outside the village shop as they launch Hilgay Mammoth Woolly Wall competition. From left Ali Dent, Des Dent (whose woolly model was to receive some extra hair) and Ash Risk.
May 2012: Children brave the freezing waters to collect the winning ducks in Castle Acre Primary School’s annual duck race. Around 150 adults and children ignored the rain to support the annual race, which raised more than £800 for school funds.
May 2012: Heacham’s Pocahontas Players combined Mary Poppins and the Lion King for their Another Night at the Theatre production. In this picture, Michael Banks (Jack Parr) and Jane Banks (Abbie Marshall) meet Timon the meerkat (Ben Parr) and Pumbas the warthog (Alex Kendal).
May 2014: Youngsters and their families joined staff at The Norman School in Northwold for their first traditional May Day celebration as a newly-formed academy school. The roles of May Day king and queen, leading the procession, were taken by Archie Ramshaw and Joana Pedras.
May 2014: This is what neighbours are for. Friends from Holyrood Drive in Dersingham gather at the front of No 13 in support of fire victim Jenny Newman and her four children (front) Bradley, Ishmael, Aisha and Vincent. An electrical fault sparked the blaze and neighbours quickly rallied round to help.
May 2014: As pleased as punch: Roger Gore-Rowe with the best hybrid in show, Scofinettia Bouquet, at the annual Fenland Orchid Society show held at Terrington St Clement.
May 2014: Families were riding the waves during an open day hosted by Brancaster Staithe Sailing Club and among those enjoying the experience were four-year-old Caleb Martin and his mum Rebecca.
May 2014: Story time for Watlington pre-school children was given a new look under the canopy of a story tree, created and made by Andrea Newstead – who wanted to give something back to the school for the help given to her grandson Cobie. Joining them are other children and staff member Jancy Skinner.
MAY 2014: Children at St Germans Pre-School were looking forward to more role play fun thanks to a £360 donation from Lynn Vancouver 1114 Round Table. Ashley Kew, the Round Table chairman front left, presents the cheque to Carolyn Wardale, deputy supervisor at the school. Also pictured are Table members Karl Lanham (back left) and Ian Cooper (back right), along with youngsters, staff and helpers.
May 2018: Tony and Elaine Rowley in their Old Vicarage garden in Dersingham, preparing for the village’s annual open gardens and art trail. Alongside the usual range of garden pests they also had to contend with muntjac deer nibbling at their manicured hedges.
