Organisers say: “This year, our Apple Day is bigger and better, with lots to see and do.

"Obviously, the main event will be the wonderful abundance of historic apples we have grown at Stow Hall Gardens.”

Visitors will be able to:

• choose from a huge selection of apples to try and take home – cookers and eaters;

• try juicing apples then sample the apple juice made;

• try out the special, spiral peelers;

• play fun games, like “The longest apple peel game” and “Who can build the biggest apple tower”;

• using windfall apples, make imaginative apple creatures, which will be displayed on social media;

• take part in an exciting quiz for all the family, to solve ”The Mystery of the Stolen Apple”;

• enjoy a simple straw bale maze set up in the 20-acre gardens

• buy plants, including some unusual ones that have been propagated at Stow Hall Gardens; peruse some stalls or buy refreshments provided by Church Farm, with some cakes made from Stow Apples;

• go on a Nature Walk and discover more about nature from knowledgeable keeper, Nigel or watch the pole lathe;

• try and win at the mega raffle, which will be drawn on Monday, October 10;

• watch sheep dog demos on The Chase.

If the weather is not kind, bring umbrellas and wellies.
