Falklands War 40 years on: How the story unfolded for West Norfolk

More news, no ads

Stories of bravery, fear and death headlined the Lynn News’ coverage of the Falklands War 40 years ago – and there was particular focus on the vital role of RAF Marham.

West Norfolk soldiers, sailors and aircrews all played their part in the conflict which lasted 74 days – from April 2, 1982, when Argentina launched its attack on the Falkland Islands, until June 14 when the invaders finally surrendered to the British forces. A total of 74 days.

The sovereignty of the Falklands had long been disputed between Argentina and Britain, before the Argentine military junta led by Lieut. General Leopoldo Galtieri ended negotiations and launched an invasion of the islands.
