King’s Lynn BID Halloween smartphone QR code free story trail this October, Totally Spooking Out!, is augmented reality experience
Discover King’s Lynn, the town’s Business Improvement District, has teamed up with High Street Safari to offer a free augmented reality trail in King’s Lynn Town Centre this October!
Totally Spooking Out! is an innovative augmented reality experience coming to the streets of King’s Lynn this Halloween. This brand-new story trail involves hunting down 10 ghoulish Halloween masks across the town centre, taking selfies wearing the digital masks and watching as the creepy creatures jump into life right in front of you!
Using a smartphone, players can make their way through the trail by scanning QR codes* at 10 spooky mask check points located in shop windows across the town. As well as trying on these masks and bringing the characters to life, players can make story choices and shape how their Halloween adventure evolves.
The trail works by utilising contactless QR codes, meaning there’s no need for fancy apps or sign-ups!
Vicky Etheridge, BID manager, said: “We at Discover King’s Lynn are very excited to bring King’s Lynn its first augmented reality trail. We loved the idea as soon as the first digital creature popped up on our phone, and we hope that the people of King’s Lynn will be as impressed!
Totally Spooking Out! gives families a fabulous opportunity to enjoy some quality time together outdoors without spending a penny. The trail is also a great excuse to explore King’s Lynn Town Centre and perhaps stumble across some businesses you didn’t even know existed!”
The trail should take 45 minutes – 1 hour to complete but can be completed in more than one visit. It’s completely free for families to take part in and every participant wins a free, digital fun pack at the end of their trail.
So, for some spectacularly spooky fun this October, head into King’s Lynn town centre between the 1st & 31st and get hunting those Halloween masks!

*Most modern phones will automatically scan QR codes simply by opening the camera app and pointing at them. If your phone doesn’t have this capability, you can download an app that reads QR codes instead.
