King's Lynn Highgate Infant School Gaywood teacher Edna Fysh tribute plus Linnets, Denver, Fairstead, Terrington, Wimbotsham and Heacham in Memory Lane

A stalwart of Lynn life was remembered in July 1997 with a pair of benches at the school where she taught for 33 years.

Miss Edna Fysh, who lived in the West Norfolk area all her life, had died at a Lynn nursing home in the previous September at the age of 91. She taught the reception classes at Highgate Infant School, Gaywood, between 1933 and 1966 – and was well-known for going to school on her motorbike.

Pictured with the seats dedicated to Edna Fysh are, from left, former colleague Jeannie Daisley, Betty Backshall, head teacher Anne Wilkin, Margaret Jervis and Joy Billings, with some of the school pupils. Photo: MLNF-9707129
