Discover Downham September 21 meeting at The Old Fire Station, Priory Road has Tony Hall as guest speaker on Hilgay Feoffee charity




On Wednesday, September 21 local historian Tony Hall (pictured) will be guest speaker at Discover Downham’s monthly meeting which will be held at The Old Fire Station, Priory Road.

Tony, who will be giving an illustrated talk, is currently the clerk of the Hilgay Feoffee charity giving him a unique insight into its history which can be traced back to the mid-17th century.

It will be entitled “Hilgay Feoffees, Three and a Half Centuries of Charity at the heart of a Norfolk community.”

Tony is a trustee of Discover Downham. Originally from North Staffordshire, he has lived in West Norfolk for 16 years.

This will be his sixth talk for the Heritage Society. His previous subjects have ranged from the history of 16th century Wood Hall to that of Cold War sites in Norfolk.

Everyone is welcome, and doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start and there is no need to book. Entry is £3 for members and £4 for visitors.

There will be an opportunity to ask questions at the end of the evening and tea and coffee will be available. There will also be a raffle in aid of the centre.
