Kate Bush from Fakenham almost sent Queen Mother at Sandringham tumbling on 91st birthday - Memory Lane

The banner carries an unmistakable message from the crowd of well-wishers gathered outside Sandringham church on Sunday, August 4, 1991, to meet the Queen Mother, 91 years young on the day.

They burst into a chorus of Happy Birthday To You as Britain’s best-loved great grandmother left the church arm in arm with the Queen. There was one moment of alarm, however, when five-year-old Kate Bush, from Fakenham, almost sent the Queen Mum tumbling as she tugged at her dress. Kate wanted to attract the Queen Mum’s attention to show her the curtsey she had been practising!

For the rest of the day, it was a quiet celebration with the Queen Mother enjoying a picnic on the grass with the Queen and grandson Viscount Linley. Photo: MLNF-910847
