In our weekly All Our Yesterdays feature, we take a look back at October town topics from 2011, 2016 and 2017…

Second right is Lee Scarisbrick from Smithdon and students Chloe Hannan and Ella Pickett with some of the interview team.
October 2016: Downham Town Council hosted a surprise party to mark the retirement of Trevor Goodrum, who had been caretaker at the town hall since April 1988. Trevor and his wife Margaret are joined by (from left) family members Oliver, Julian, Toby, Sarah and Harley Goodrum (front), together with the Town Mayor Marion Ross.
October 2017: A civic reception was held at Lynn Town Hall to mark the 25th anniversary of the electrification of the Lynn railway line. The borough mayor, Carol Bower, centre, is pictured with rail campaigners, politicians and business leaders.
October 2011: Pupils at Gaywood Community Primary School discovered the delights of basketball and netball – thanks to an £800 grant from the All England Netball Association’s Youth Trust. The children are joined by (from left) netball coach Gill Brewer, business manager Johanna Coe and PE co-ordinator Kevin Smallwood.
October 2011: The new South Lynn Community Centre opened to mark the completion of a £320,000 refurbishment programme at the former St Michael’s Primary School. Councillors Nick Daubney (front left) and David Pope cut the traditional ribbon.
October 2011: Members of Downham Market Flower Club celebrated the group’s 50th birthday with a luncheon at the Castle Hotel. Sandra Brett, the longest-serving member, had the honour of cutting the cake. From left are East of England area chairman Jean Crane, Wendy Bell (club chairwoman), Pam Briggs, Sue Batterham, Cinthia Dent, Sandra Brett and Judy Reed.
October 2011: Anne Greeves made history when she was appointed the first-ever lady chairman of Lynn Male Voice Choir in its 54-year history. She had been the choir’s piano accompanist since 2005.
October 2011: Food that was past its sell-by date was being donated by Sainsbury’s at Hunstanton to the town’s Sealife Sanctuary, with ravenous otters and a shoal of Amazonian pacus the beneficiaries. From left are Darren Burrows of Sainsbury’s, Sealife Centre general manager Nigel Croasdale and Sainsbury’s Store Manager Neil Grainger.
October 2011: Three students of Swaffham’s Sacred Heart School had the experience of a lifetime when singing in front of 20,000 people in Sarajevo’s Olympic Stadium during a commemorative religious event. This commemoration marked the 71st anniversary of the UN Charter coming into force. The 1950-53 Korean War was the only conflict in which the UN took part, subsequently only having a peacekeeping role.
