Dersingham St George’s Middle School class reunion September 1995 plus Feltwell, Marham, Swaffham in Lynn News Memory Lane

Old classmates from Dersingham St George’s Middle School met for a happy reunion in September 1995 – and cutting the celebration cake in this Lynn News photo are the organiser Linda Harris and former maths teacher Roy Cator.

The event was organised by Linda who said that about 35 former pupils attended, some travelling from as far away as Essex and Scotland, and it had been so successful there were already plans for a second get-together in the year 2000.

The reunion for the class of ’71 was held in the village’s Game Keepers Lodge. Photo: MLNF-9509238

All Our Yesterdays: September

2001: This was the scene outside the gates of the United States Air Force (Europe) base at RAF Feltwell in the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the twin towers of the World Trade Centre in New York and at the Pentagon in Washington DC, which claimed the lives of nearly 3,000 people. The base was on high alert after the atrocity and two bunches of flowers were placed at the gates offering condolences. The Feltwell facility was used for communications. MLNF-0109393

Above and below are photos from 2001, 2007 and 2009 during that month.

2001: Residents, families and staff from Woodlands residential home in South Wootton were in fighting mood following controversial proposals by Norfolk County Council to privatise homes in the county. A packed conference organised by health care union Unison was held at Norwich and this picture shows the South Wootton contingent about to set off. A petition against the privatisation plans, started at Woodlands, soon had 100 signatures and that was to be presented to West Norfolk Council and also local MP Mr Henry Bellingham. MLNF-0109630

2001: More than 1,000 service personnel gathered in RAF Marham’s number one hanger to commemorate the 61st anniversary of the Battle of Britain and also to remember all those who lost their lives in the 9/11 terror attacks in America. Men and women from the five squadrons and four Royal Air Force Association branches assembled for the 45-minute drumhead service. MLNF-0109498

2001: Lynn suffered its worst flood fears for years when high tides and strong winds combined to take water over the town’s South Quay. Dramatic scenes greeted workers and sightseers with the Outer Purfleet completely full of water as the river surged over the barrage gates. Captain Vancouver’s statue, normally on dry land, is surrounded by the high tide. At Hunstanton, nearly 100 people went to the makeshift emergency rest centre at the Smithdon High School after flood warnings were issued along the coast. MLNF-0109638

September 2007: Euro MP Richard Howitt saddled up to promote Lynn cycle groups and green travel when he chose the town as a leading example of cycle paths and pedestrian-friendly streets in a visit to coincide with European Mobility Week. He also spent time riding out questions about the benefits MEPs brought to the people of Norfolk. Watching on are cycle club members. MLNF-07AM09584
