The 47 children on Shouldham Primary School’s roll raised a magnificent £301.17 for the Lynn News’ V for Victory Memorial Appeal in June 1995 and pictured in the centre of this group is the editor, David Young, with the cheque.
The money would go towards the memorial in Lynn’s Tower Gardens to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. Some of the children had dressed as soldiers, pilots and nurses for their fundraising sponsored march around Shouldham, which finished at the village green with a tea and a disco organised by friends of the school, a group of young mums called the Ladybirds and the WI.
Headteacher Roger Swift and teacher Carol Foster joined the children for this picture. MLNF-9506110
