King's Lynn Memory Lane: Priory Inner Wheel benefits charities including West Norfolk Muscular Dystrophy Group

The fundraising efforts by members of Lynn’s Priory Inner Wheel benefitted six charities in August, 1991.

A total of £540 was presented to the charities, money raised through a variety of activities from a garden party to a safari supper. A cheque for £40 was presented to Cyril Bateman of the Lynn and West Norfolk Muscular Dystrophy Group – which had also received money the previous year – and he is pictured at the front with Priory Inner Wheel past president Jayne Hannant.

The other cheques were each for £100 and pictured back, from left, are: Dawn Widdowson (Foundation for the Study of Infant Death), Priory Inner Wheel fundraising chairman Gillian Ison, Brenda Leedell (Asthma Society), Gloria Fenton (Macmillan Cancer Relief Society), Sylvia Harnett (Lynn Samaritans) and Dr Susan Rubin (Queen Elizabeth Hospital Children’s Centre Appeal). August 2002: Kind-hearted Lynn News correspondent Chris Cook wanted to do his bit to help seals which had been affected by a deadly virus in The Wash. After finding two dead seals during a walk on Brancaster beach, he decided to support an appeal made by the RSPCA hospital at East Winch for towels, which staff could use when treating and handling sick animals. Mr Cook set up a collection point outside his home at Burnham Market and within hours found he had been inundated with hundreds of donations. MLNF-0208785
