King's Lynn Memory Lane: Heacham golden weddings in 1997 like Queen and Prince Philip, Burnham Market, Northwold Primary, Heacham, Gayton Brownies, West Walton, Watlington

Heacham couples who missed out on the chance of celebrating their golden weddings with the Queen and Prince Philip in July 1997 were not left disappointed.

That was the year the royal couple reached 50 years and invited other golden wedding couples to a party at Buckingham Palace. Remarkably, in Heacham alone, there were 13 couples celebrating golden anniversaries, but none had royal invitations. Alan and Dolly Guy (front, cutting the cake) of South Moor Drive came to the rescue with their own garden party held on the same day as the royal palace event.

Pictured in the background, with parish council representatives Mr and Mrs Les Law (who celebrated their golden wedding in 1976) are the other couples (in no order): Mr and Mrs Baker, Bell, Chasney, Harrod, Hemming, Hudson, Jenkinson, Lake and Lilley. Unable to be present were Mr and Mrs Beasley, Bradfield and Thomas. MLNF-9707244

All Our Yesterdays features Lynn News lookback pictures. The theme this week is "Villages".

July 2001: When Gayton Brown Owl Pauline King decided to take a back seat after 15 years, the village Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers had a surprise in store. At one of the weekly meetings they presented her with a cake in the shape of a Brown Owl and a jewellery box with a Guides logo on it. Pauline, pictured in the centre cutting the cake, said she would remain involved with the Brownies on a mentoring basis for new leaders. MLNF-01079319A
