Memory Lane: King's Lynn Air Training Corps cadets met Borough Mayor Fred Juniper in 1995

Lynn Air Training Corps cadets met Borough Mayor Fred Juniper in September 1995 for a top-flight presentation.

The Loke Road-based cadets, all aged between 13 and 18, were awarded certificates for passing their leading cadet exams. Three of the teenagers received a trophy they won in an orienteering competition earlier in the year, while Oliver Thurley scooped Cadet of the Year. In this picture, Mr Juniper presents the shield to Oliver Thurley, joined by the other cadets and officers.

Pilot Officer Debbie Banks said the cadets enjoyed meeting Mr Juniper and added: “He had a few words to say to each of them and I think he was an ex-cadet himself by the way he was talking.” Photo: MLNF-950971

September 2001: Michelle Sherwood Cancer Fund committee members look on as their chairman, Ian Sherwood, receives a painting from the group’s president, SW Norfolk MP Gillian Shephard, to mark his retirement after ten years. Ian had led the charity since it was founded in 1991 in memory of his wife, a nurse at Lynn’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital, who died of a rare form of cancer at the age of 25. The fund was raising about £3,500 annually to buy equipment for cancer patients. MLNF-0109244

September 2009: Lynn News readers were proving their mettle by pushing the Special Care Baby Appeal through the £130,000 barrier. It meant that just another £20,000 was needed to reach the target. After their baby Ethan received life-saving care at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Lynn, parents Ian and Rebecca Guymer raised £700 for the appeal. Ian had asked for donations rather than gifts for his 30th birthday and held a charity auction. One-year-old Ethan, his mum and dad are pictured presenting the cheque to staff nurses Simone Nuccoll, left, and Sophie Smith. MLNF-09PT09291
