Youngsters in the nursery class at Middleton Montessori School helped in June 1995 to do their bit for children suffering from liver disease.
To celebrate National Liver Week, they started collecting coins in Smartie tubes. The fundraising idea came from Sharon John, of West Winch, whose four-year-old daughter Hannah and two-year-old son Oliver both attended the nursery.
Before Hannah was born, she was diagnosed as having a cyst inside her liver and when she was only ten days old had to undergo a major operation at King’s Hospital in London. Happily, the operation was a complete success and each year since her parents had raised money for the Children’s Liver Foundation. Hannah is pictured on the right with her playmates. MLNF-9506207
