Memory Lane: Pupils back London Marathon teacher
The London Marathon event in April, 1993, held a special interest for pupils from the Howard Infants School in Gaywood.
That’s because their teacher, Mrs Janet Parkes, was running in the race in a special yellow T-shirt designed by pupils at the school.
Class members and the rest of the school’s 151 children also demonstrated their support for her effort by taking part in a mini-marathon which raised £32 for her chosen charity, Crisis, which helps the homeless.
As the summer term started, the youngsters aged five and six, were looking forward to one of the highlights of their school year, a trip to the wildlife park at Great Witchingham.
