Nature focused partnership in East Anglia

The RSPB and Girlguiding Anglia have formed a new nature focused partnership which aims to connect Girlguiding members from East Anglia with the natural world.

A recent partnership launch event at RSPB Minsmere Nature Reserve saw Girlguiding members get hands-on with nature

The partnership will run until later next year and aims to reach thousands of Girlguiding members across the Anglia region.

Tracy Foster, chief commissioner for Girlguiding Anglia said: "We are delighted to be partnering with RSPB and to encourage our members to explore nature and have outdoor adventures.

"We are fortunate to have a number of RSPB reserves across the region, and hope that our members will feel encouraged to visit them throughout this coming year and beyond.

"Enjoying the outdoors and caring for the environment is something we are all passionate about and this partnership enables us to work together to raise awareness and support the world around us."

Guides, Brownies and Rainbows aged five- to14-years of age, took part in fun nature-focused activities with RSPB volunteers. These included fungi spotting, den building, exploring trees, visiting a bird hide and a minibeast hunt

These engaging activities offered the chance to get really hands-on with nature, sparking their natural curiosity whilst learning about the natural world.

Yvonne Hunt, RSPB youth partnerships officer said: "We are delighted to be working with Girlguiding Anglia as part of this partnership.

"Engaging with children and young people is an incredibly important part of our work as they will be the guardians of our world in the future.

"We hope it will encourage them to be real champions for nature, using their voices to speak up for wildlife and the environment, and they will feel as passionate about protecting and helping nature as we do.

"We’re excited to work with Girlguiding Anglia on this very special partnership and we look forward to continuing to work closely together over the next year."

The partnership will deliver opportunities to learn about, experience and help nature through the use of downloadable activity packs and badges, that are earned through nature focused sessions delivered by Girlguiding leaders, and visits to RSPB nature reserves.

The Girlguiding Anglia partnership builds upon previous work with Girlguiding London and South East Region, who since 2015, have successfully collaborated with the RSPB to increase opportunities for young women and girls to interact with, enjoy and learn about nature.
