New library opened at Clenchwarton Primary School in 2005

In our weekly Memory Lane Schooldays feature we look back 20 years…

The opening of a new library at Clenchwarton Primary School in November 2005, meant that, for the first time, pupils had a special area devoted to literacy.

The shelves were stacked with up to 3,000 books and there were also Internet-linked computers which children could use for research. Much of the funding for the project came from book fairs organised by the school which were well supported by parents, friends and the Parent Teacher Association.

Great Massingham author Robert Crowther, who had attended a school workshop earlier in the year, was invited back to perform the official opening and is pictured with some pupils and librarian Joy Shirley (back left) and deputy headteacher Cara Fahy.
