Redgate Middle School in Hunstanton welcomed piano player John Harris into premises in February 1998





Our weekly Memory Lane Schooldays feature focuses on a local piano player’s visit to a school in February 1998…

It all started in the 1980s with one man sitting at a piano and playing for 12 hours to raise money for charity.

But a dozen years later, that original music marathon had grown well beyond the expectations of the originator, John Harris.

Over the years many other musicians offered their services and, when this Lynn News picture was taken in February 1998, the day had become a marathon of entertainment with all ages taking part.

These choristers from Redgate Middle School in Hunstanton, together with their music teacher Mario Rizzardi were involved, with all the proceeds being divided equally between Multiple Sclerosis Research, Mind, Cancer Research Campaign and the Stroke Association.
