All Our Yesterdays: Memories from Watlington, Snettisham and Terrington St Clement featuring May Queen festivities and business celebrations




In our weekly All Our Yesterdays feature, we look back at different events reported over the years in the Lynn News…

May 2002: A queen, king, four princesses and two princes were crowned at Northwold Primary School’s annual May Queen festivities. Rosie Stutchbury (11) and Conor Clifford (10) were crowned queen and king after being elected by other pupils at the school – and they chose their princesses and princes. All the children took part in the May Day parade and there was also, singing, maypole dancing and Morris dancing. In this picture, seven-year-old Chelsea Stevenson dances through the Morris dancers.

May 2010: Keen cooks from Terrington St Clement Primary School were treated to a baking master class from Nigel Coleman, the chef/owner of the Crown Inn at Middleton, when he spent a morning with members of the school’s thriving cookery club. He helped them prepare treacle tart, and cheese and bacon pasties. With Nigel are, from left, Travis Ward, Alice Stocker, Daniel Pease, Robson Pack, Georgia Wilson and Alicia Larosa.

May 2010: Family members of Sid George Aggregates celebrated 60 years in business – and were still operating from the same Blackborough End site which its founder, Sid, had bought in 1950 after starting up once he had left the army. Continuing the family concern were David and Elaine George with daughters Donna (back left) and Hayley, together with their dog Stella.

May 2001: Pictured in costume for their next production, Anything Goes, members of Watlington Players present a cheque for £270 to Watlington Surgery patients’ group treasurer Dianne Wren, practice manager Scilla Ash and Dr Sue Buckland. The Players’ representatives are, from left, Adrian Baxter, Joanne Jones, Jenny Baxter, Penny Cooke, Chip Carpenter and Sarah Creasey.

May 2001: Dragons were flying through the Walpoles as pupils at the Anthony Curton School gave vent to their imaginations for a myths and legends art project. In this picture, Robin Hood meets St George and the Dragon and anti-clockwise from back left are Beth Kerry, Ryan Hammond, Whitney Oakes, Nathaniel Bennett, Teri-Anne Courtney, Stephanie Palmer and Peter Forteath.

May 2013: Wings and wands were on show when Heacham Infant School celebrated outdoor improvements carried out with the help of a £7,000 Lottery grant. May 2013: A £100,000 heritage project was launched at Snettisham, aiming to encourage greater community use of St Mary’s Church along with promoting the village’s rich history. May 2001: The Pirates of Penzance was the theme of a weekend camp for about 20 Cub Scouts from Runcton Holme and Watlington. At the front, from left, are Ryan Hewitt, Samuel Allen and Dayton Payne with their Cub Scout challenge certificates, joined by county commissioner Marilyn Evans.

May 2001: The Welcome Club which covers Terrington St John, Tilney St Lawrence, the Walpoles and Marshland, celebrated its 42nd birthday and pictured here, about to enjoy a cuppa and some cake, are members of the committee.
