Inspiration from Food for Thought sessions at Hunstanton

The ever-popular Food for Thought is returning with a series of ten sessions at Hunstanton.

Starting next Wednesday, May 14, at the Community Hub inside the town hall, the free, family-friendly sessions aim to help residents learn new cooking skills, swap recipe ideas and discover ways to eat healthy and nutritional food while also saving money.

The live cooking demonstrations will be taking place from 9.30am to 11.30am every Wednesday until July 16 as part of West Norfolk Council’s Lily service.

Sessions are open to people of all ages and skill levels, no booking is needed - just turn up to any session.

Cllr Jo Rust, borough council cabinet member for people and communities, said: “I would highly recommend attending these to enjoy the live cooking demonstrations of how to cook healthily at home on a budget – and of course, to taste the results!

“Previous sessions have made a positive contribution to people in lots of ways. They give people new skills, help them to stay healthy and help them to save money. But they do even more: we know, for example, that they have helped people to overcome social isolation and loneliness.

“They are sociable and family-friendly so they really are open to all. We’ve had people who’ve come with their children, young adults who need advice about cooking on a budget and older people.

“And best of all it’s really flexible around people’s needs - people can turn up at any point, and stay for as long as they want to. Although I must say it’s worth staying to the end if you can, to enjoy the delicious food that our professional chefs produce.”

Each week there will be tips about how to cook without breaking the bank. The themes will be: May 14 breakfast, May 21 lunch, May 28 snacks, June 6 dinner, June 11 low calorie cooking, June 18 batch cooking, June 26 dietary alternatives, July 2 low cost desserts, July 9 fakeaway meals, and July 16 seasonal savings.
