In our weekly Memory Lane Schooldays feature we look back at when students organised a hoedown and raised hundreds for charity…

These teenagers who had brought a taste of the American west to Downham presented the proceeds to Norfolk Hospice in June 2014.

The Year 13 students from Downham Academy organised a hoedown in March as part of their A-Level travel and tourism group, and a total of 120 people enjoyed country music, burgers and line dancing at the event.

More than £830 was raised and the group decided to support Norfolk Hospice as it was a local charity and Lindsay Atkin is pictured receiving the cheque from the students on behalf of the hospice.

“We were over the moon to have raised that much money,” said one of the organisers, Aaron Leggett.
