Students from King’s Lynn’s Park High School and Springwood High face the camera in April 2001

In our weekly Memory Lane Schooldays feature, we look back at a poetry writing trip back in April 2001…

Sixteen students from Lynn’s Park High School and Springwood High face the camera in April 2001 before leaving the town for a week of poetry writing in West Yorkshire.

There were ten Year 7 children from the Park along with teacher Chris Clarke, and six Year 7 from Springwood with teacher Davina Griffiths, making the trip to Lumb Bank, Heptonstall, near Halifax.

They were to spend time working with national poets Kit Wright and Sandy Brownjohn at the Arvon Foundation writing retreat.

The trip marked the start of a three-year project – the countywide Young People’s Literature Network – intending to reach every child who wanted to write, publish or perform, and it also included open-access workshops at Lynn’s Arts Centre.
