Downham Market Gingerbread Trail produced by volunteers at Discover Downham Old Fire Station in Priory Road launched on November 19

Sweeten and spice up your life in the Gingerbread Festival which is a first for the ‘Gingerbread Town’, as Downham is sometimes known due its number of distinctive carrstone buildings.

This festival is the brainchild of Karen Merrison, who created the website Fascinating Fens to celebrate and promote the Fens and to network with other like-minded groups nearby.

As part of the festival, a Gingerbread Trail has been produced by volunteers at Discover Downham – based at The Old Fire Station in Priory Road – and will be launched on Saturday, November 19.

You can drop in any time between 2pm and 4pm to pick up a leaflet and go gingerbread house spotting. The event is being run by Karen but Discover Downham volunteers will be helping by stewarding and serving tea and coffee during the afternoon.

There will be a tombola, raffle, gift stalls and gingerbread-themed competitions which include colouring the gingerbread poster, gingerbread house and gingerbread person. The poster and full competition guidelines are on the Fascinating Fens website.

If anyone would like to know more about the event or get involved, email Karen at fascinatingfens@outlook.com.

Competition entries should be brought to Discover Downham from 1.30pm and judging will be at 3pm. The festival closes at 4pm.
