Lynn News It's a Dad's Life column: half term holidays

It’s been a busy old month. As you read this, we are of course in the middle of the half term holiday and I am trying my absolute hardest to keep up with my energetic boys.

Oliver is following in my footsteps with this running malarky and is getting personal bests at our local parkrun and in the junior event, while Samuel is still injuring himself on a daily basis on the football pitch, so nothing changes there.

I’ve thought long and hard about what I could have a go at that I haven’t done before.

I considered roller skating and skateboarding, but I value my bones too much.

Skittle ball, hand ball, dodge ball, pickle ball and spike ball (sounds concerning and slightly painful) have been discounted.

So then I decided to consider a sporting ‘experience’.

Skiing was completely off the menu.

I’ve done enough exercise over the years in the freezing cold and I didn’t much like the idea of anything that involved hanging off the side of a cliff.

So, I’ve decided to take the plunge. Literally.

Yep, I’ve signed up for a charity skydive in June through my work with Stephenson Smart to raise money for a fantastic charity.

Why go for something sedate when you can fling yourself out of a plane at 13,000 feet strapped to someone you have never met before.

There’s at least eight of us doing it so they’ll be plenty of people to panic with.

And of course, it’s another one to tick off the bucket list.

I’m also pretty chuffed that I’ve given blood again this week – 49 pints so far and counting.

Looking to make the magic 50 pints, although I may avoid that the morning of the skydive. I don’t want to add any extra excitement to the day.
