It's sink of swim
So International Women’s Day has been and gone and it was great to write an article about some of the inspirational women in West Norfolk that was featured in the Lynn News.
Obviously in our house it is International Women’s Day every day and I live like an absolute queen. Well, in my lunch hour anyway.
It is great to work in a good team and to have many ages and experiences to add to working life.
I would like to think that younger women are able to see opportunities that they would never have been able to do due to suppression and discrimination regarding gender.
Back in the day when the swimming test determined whether a woman was a witch.
The irony being that an innocent woman would drown and a witch would bob to the surface and then be burnt alive for being a witch.
Whoever came up with such an idea needs to be congratulated on the win-win situation.
I asked my ever so patient partner about women who have inspired him and he mentioned Dame Laura Kenny.
As he is a cyclist himself, she is someone who, as a professional track and road cyclist, specialising in track endurance events (can you tell I am using Google?) and is an Olympic medal winner and the most successful female cyclist, is clearly to be admired.
And guess what, we share the same birthday, although she is a good few years younger than me.
So that’s probably the real reason he admires her, because of all those similarities, of which the birth date is the only one.
It is good to start these conversations about women and inspiration and find out positive opinions about it.
Talking of sporting prowess, I went for a lovely swim and scones afternoon with my friend.
It was nice to chillax, swim a few lengths and then be treated to scones with clotted cream.
I thoroughly recommend Hunstanton Pool Hire to use as a little private oasis where all this frivolity took place.
This Easter I will be attending a charity youth holiday for which I am a trustee.
It is great fun, though quite tiring due to all the sport and my friend who visited me at the weekend goes to the holiday too. We have known each other for 35 years and she is an inspiration to me, too.
Whenever we have a quandary we often say, how would Eleanor Roosevelt deal with this? She was the longest serving first lady of the United States.
So many inspirational women, so little time.
Usually the answer is there, that so many inspirational women before us have paved the way to find.
Sink or swim.
