It’s a Dad’s Life: King's Lynn accountant Neil Gayton on his boys' Midlands canal cruise holiday with the grandparents

More news, no ads

It’s nearly half term and this time the boys are off on holiday without us.

Yes, the grandparents are mad and are taking both boys and their two cousins on a canal cruise in the Midlands.

I think my mum may have taken complete leave of her senses, but I’m not saying a word.

Four days on a boat with nowhere to have half a second’s peace. I fully expect the boys to return with stories of soggy crisps and adventures through the locks.

I expect my mother to return needing a two-week cruise on a large liner and a triple gin and tonic.

Oliver of course will take the whole experience very sensibly, listen to all rules and will adhere to the safety measures with bells on.

Samuel on the other hand will be fitted with a double life jacket, knee and arm pads and perhaps even a crash helmet if other escapades have been anything to go by.

Meanwhile the wife and I are booking into a dog-friendly hotel, where we shall take leisurely walks with the mutts and skip through the forest like we are in an episode of a period drama.

Holidays in general seem to be a huge topic of conversation, with many people frantically trying to get passports back in time to travel, source flights and take a well-needed family break.

Our advice here at Stephenson Smart would always be to make sure your holidays are ATOL protected, particularly in these still uncertain times.

At Stephenson Smart we have two ATOL Reporting Accountants (ARA’s) and we work with ATOL registered businesses to sign off the annual renewals.

Our partner Martyn Benstead and manager Mike Rowles are both ARA’s and have many years of experience completing both annual renewals and assisting with quarterly returns.

Give us a call if you have any questions.
