North Wootton Village Hall to celebrate King Charles' Coronation in May after Buckingham Palace announcement
A community event is being planned to celebrate the King’s Coronation in May.
Following Buckingham Palace’s announcement that ceremonial, celebratory, and community events will take place across the country, North Wootton Village Hall will be holding a Coronation Big Lunch between 11am and 5.30pm on Sunday, May 7.
The village hall has played host to many celebrations of royal milestones including last year’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, and acted as the village’s televisual hub for the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953.
The coronation of His Majesty King Charles III will be no exception.
Various activities will be taking place from April 29 until the day of the Coronation Big Lunch.
This includes a Kings and Queens themed scarecrow trail which will see scarecrows displayed in front gardens as well as some in public areas with a map available to participants.
Also planned is a best decorated home competition, with villagers invited to decorate the exterior of their homes in red, white, and blue with prizes available for the winners of both competitions.
The Coronation Big Lunch will be a street party style event held at the hall and is free for villagers to attend.
Between 11am and 5.30pm, there will be live music from the Eddie Seales Big Band and Claire Scollay, face painting by Rainbow Tiger Face Painting, village fete style games to play, competitions plus food and drink.
The National Lottery Community Fund, the largest funder of community activity in the UK, has awarded a grant to North Wootton Village Hall which will fund the Coronation celebrations.
Antony Lamb, North Wootton Village Hall events organiser, said: “Given the many challenges we as a community and the country as a whole has faced in recent times, the coronation is an opportunity to come together in order to mark this historic occasion.
“Thanks to funding from the National Lottery, the Coronation Big Lunch will be free for all villagers to attend and promises to be a fantastic day.”
