Moo-sings on milk

I remember when I was a teenager a young guy at school trying to impress the French exchange student over breakfast.

He thought it might dazzle her if he spoke her mother tongue and instead of reaching over the table he asked her to pass the milk please in faux French and an accompanying Clouseau style accent.

He said: “Would you pass me le milk s’il vous plais?” and she replied, in her heavy sultry accent: “In French, milk is ‘lait’.”

So he thought about it and rephrased it saying: “Would you pass me lait milk s’il vous plait?”

Del Boy would’ve been proud.

I often tell that story and some people may think I am milking it, but hey, same set, different crowd, that’s my motto.

On a similar subject , a comedian called Lusia Omielan does a funny set about cows and how they might moo in different accents. Her show What Would Beyonce Do is well worth a watch to see her comedy show set to the soundtrack of hits from her idol Beyonce.

It is personal and surprising and funny if you like cow jokes.

Animals offer a lot of humour occasionally.

I don’t know quite why it makes me laugh so much but there are some short video clips of squirrels trying to get to the bird seeders on washing lines.

They jump on and just swing round and round until flying off onto the grass in a dizzy, nutty daze.

I realise there will be squirrel lovers out there who may write in. I received a letter about my hatred of wasps.

But the clip is just so silly it is funny. An instant cheerer upper.

No doubt some of us, and I do too, feel the effect of SAD when the seasons change.

Seasonal Affected Disorder (SAD) typically happens during autumn and can get worse in winter. With more societal awareness around mental health and the need to talk about issues, let’s hope that people can reach out for a helping hand with someone there to listen.

Papyrus, the charity for the prevention of young suicide is available for younger people who may need extra support.

James Bond 007 actor Daniel Craig has since donated a hefty £10,000 to the three Dads Walking cause and they are raising phenomenal amounts for the charity.

Life throws the hardest of curve balls at us. Lusia Omielan opens up about some mental health issues within her family and it is powerful yet performed in a way that is funny. Tears can be of joy and of sadness, almost intertwined.

I hoped you enjoyed this week’s musings in my column (or moosings) as it’s an udder honour to write it.
