12-year-old Heacham boy Danny, publishes book on grief after tragically losing his father
A moving tale of dealing with grief has been penned by a boy from Heacham.
Getting Back on Your Feet After Losing a Loved One, is the debut book from Danny Bailey, 12.
Remarkably, this inspiring young man actually wrote the guide when he was eight as a way to help other children deal with the loss of a significant other.
Danny, lost his father Mark Bailey, who was an systems manager, to SADS (Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome) when he was just five years old.
His mother Nicky said of her son: "I'm so proud of him, he has achieved more in his twelve years than I have in my life.
"It was hard to explain to him about his father when he was so small, but he's processed it in a way that means he can help others.
"He's excited about the book being published, but feels sorrow that they would need it, with the pandemic sadly a lot of children will be able to relate."
Danny wanted to share his experience as a child, as he thought it would be more relatable to write it from that perspective.
Many guides about loss and grief are written in a more serious manner.
Nicky said they couldn't have come this far without the help of Hannah Whyman-Naveh, a Sandringham author and illustrator who contributed her artwork to Danny's book.
She said: "Hannah has been brilliant, we have been trying to get this book off the ground for years and she has provided us with the know how and the beautiful pictures."
Hannah's Piper and Minnie series has reached Waterstones, Barnes and Noble and Amazon and she is about to release a new book Home Ed and the Four legs, to help parents with home school during lockdown.
Danny's book will be available from February 15 at Waterstones and Amazon. To pre-order Danny's to pre-order click here.
