Oliver Clarke pulled over by the police in Hilgay after driving with cocaine and cannabis in his system
A 22-year-old was caught driving with two different drugs in his system just a month after a similar offence.
Oliver Clarke, of no fixed address, appeared at Lynn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, where he admitted two counts of drug-driving.
On November 23 last year at 5.20pm, police stopped Clarke in his Ford Fiesta while he was driving in Hilgay.
Officers noted a strong scent of cannabis in the car, while Clarke’s eyes were glazed. A drugs test came back positive, and he was arrested and taken to Lynn’s Police Investigation Centre.
Further tests revealed that Clarke had 154mcg of benzoylecgonine, a cocaine breakdown, per litre of blood. The legal limit to drive is 50mcg.
He also had 2.6mcg of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, a cannabis breakdown, per litre of blood. The legal limit to drive is 2mcg.
Clarke was in court just last month for drink-driving.
In mitigation, Tiffany Meredith told the court that due to his previous drink-driving offence, he has lost his job as a mechanic, but has been looking for work since.
She said that Clarke had been smoking cannabis to help him sleep since he broke his back.
“He was picking up his friend from Downham. They were going on a night out - it was his birthday. It was not a great celebration at all,” Ms Meredith said.
“He didn’t feel impaired at all when he was stopped by officers.”
The solicitor added: “He wants to leave all of this behind him.”
Clarke was disqualified from driving for 20 months and was fined £20. He will also pay a victim surcharge of £80 and court costs of £85.
